Thesis Advisory Committee (CAT)

The Thesis Advisory Committee (CAT) is a fundamental part of the PhD program, constituted within the first 12 months of doctoral enrollment. Its purpose is to guarantee structured academic guidance, scientific rigor, and the timely completion of the thesis.

Main Responsibilities of CAT:

  • Guidance: Providing specialized recommendations on research direction.
  • Feedback: Continuous constructive criticism of methods, results, and research progression.
  • Evaluation: Reviewing progress reports, thesis proposals, and the final thesis.
  • Support: Assisting with academic and scientific challenges.

CAT Composition:

  • Main supervisor(s) and co-supervisor(s).
  • At least two independent external members, appointed by the PhD coordinator.
  • A chairperson (senior faculty member excluding supervisors).

Key Evaluation Milestones:

  • Formal Thesis Proposal Defense (end of year 1)
  • Regular progress evaluations (typically twice per year)
  • Pre-final thesis submission review
